Top 5 ingredients for a quality beard balm

There are several types of beard balms available on the market, many of which being low quality, mass-produced waxes.

Beard balms are used to style your beard, whilst providing sufficient moisture and conditioning to soften the beard. They can also help prevent hair breakage due to dryness from it's deep moisturising properties.
So, what ingredients should you look for when buying a beard balm?

1. JOJOBA OIL

Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin E, C, B & Zinc. These help to prevent and control dandruff, deeply nourish the beard and keep the beard soft and healthy.

2. BEESWAX

Beeswax is essential for the styling aspect of a beard balm. Beeswax will ensure that your beard stays styled for as long as possible, providing a great hold throughout the day.

3. A BUTTER

A butter will help the malleability of your balm - as beeswax can be pretty difficult to mould.
The ideal butters are Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter. Butters are also great in penetrating and deeply nourishing your beard, whilst protecting against harmful UV rays, ensuring your beard is well protected throughout the day.
Another plus is that they will keep frizzy hairs at bay.

4. A CARRIER OIL

Carrier oils, as the name suggests, are useful to help provide the beard balm a good texture, whilst locking in any scents used. They also help to hydrate and seal in moisture to prevent dryness.
We use Rosehip oil in our Nourishing Balms due to the versatile properties it has.

5. ESSENTIAL OIL/S
Essential oil are generally used to create a good smell. With all these natural ingredients combined, they usually produce a very earthy smell.
Essential oils help to combat this - common essential oils are Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Peppermint and Bergamot.

SHOULD YOU USE A BEARD BALM?
A beard balm can be useful if you have a beard that tends to dry out, as the deep nourishing properties of a beard balm can help to bridge this gap. Dryness can also cause frizzy hair, which can lead to an un-even beard.

Using a beard balm will help to prevent itchiness, dandruff and revitalise the beard, and is therefore a great addition to any beard routine!
